Come & Explore Algarves beaches

The areas

The province of the Algarve and its beaches can be characterised by two district area: Barlavento and Sotavento.

Firstly, Baravento – (Western part).  Situated between Albufeira and Cape St Vincent.  Along this coast, lovely rock formations are found and, nestled in the rocks, beautiful sandy beaches.

Secondly, Sotavento – (Eastern part).  Situated between Albufeira and Vila Real de Santo Antonio.  Along this area of the coast are long golden stretches of sandy beaches.

Furthermore, in our information books in the villas we have a great overview of the beaches in the Algarve and in Lagoa area.

The Lagoa Area Beaches

Undoubtedly, the Lagoa camera (district) has one of the highest density of beaches/coves in the Algarve and maybe in Portugal, some 30+.  Not all these beaches are accessible by foot, some only by boat.  In addition many are dependent on the tides. Additionally even some of those accessible by foot have some level of difficulty.

Importantly, did we mention we have two of the most photographed beaches in the world near Carvoeiro.  The famous Benagil Cave and for us more impressively is Praia da Marinha.  If you are lucky you can find the “Heart of the Algarve formation

A boat trip is a must!

Carvoeiro Caves® runs daily boat trips to the Carvoeiro and Benagil sea caves located in the Lagoa coastal area of the Algarve. Moreover many stunning caves dot the coast, including the world-famous Benagil Cave and Praia da Marinha.

In particular a boat trip with small boats is the best and safest way to explore them. Especially as they can be well manoeuvred inside the tiniest cavities and rock formations created over the centuries as a result of weathering and erosion.
